Location

Wawer district is situated on the right bank of Vistula River, in the outhern part of Warsaw. In the North it borders Rembertów and Praga Południe districts and in the West - Mokotów and Wilanów districts. The area of Wawer district is 7971 hectares of which forests occupy 34.5%. Thus this is a green district, famous for its climatic qualities and a traditional health resort. It is also famous for its rich forests forming the Mazowiecki Landscape Park. In its vicinity environment-friendly investments are planned, such as: sport and recreation canters, small lodging houses and medical centres. The area of Wawer district is covered witch a net of marked tourist pedestrian paths, leading through lovely and diversely shaped grounds.

Culture and recreation

The district's cultural centres and libraries promote the cultural development of Wawer. Two swimming pools are situated in the district: one in the Child Health Center and the other in the Institute of Cardiology. Other sport complexes situated in the district include: a football field in ZWAR, tennis courts in the Institute of Electrical Engineering, the courts and tennis hall of TKKF "Palenica", tennis courts of TKKF Stadion", several private tennis courts.

Investments

The national road No 2 (international symbol - E-30) runs through the district. The lack of internal and external ring roads results in overloading of the main district arteries. Apart from "MZA" Communication system, Wawer district is also served by "PKS" buses and a few small private transport companies. The opening of Siekierkowski Bridge significantly improved the Communication connection with the city centre.

It is planned to build a sport and recreation centre in Miedzeszyn, consisting of a complex of swimming pools, a sport and entertainment hall, playing fields and a complex of hotels. Moreover, there are also plans for building of a bridge (Most na Zaporze) and A-2 highway with a bridge and junctions, as well as an Olszynka Grochowska express road.
